Sunday, February 25th, 2007Brushetta Chicken Bake
Recipe Supplied by Kraft Foods
Serves Four
1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, undrained
2 cloves garlic, minced (Note- if garlic is not available that day, you can substitute with 1/4 tsp of garlic powder)
1 pkg (6 oz) chicken-flavored stuffing mix
1 1/2 lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite–sized pieces
1 tsp. dried basil leaves
1 cup Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
Preheat oven to 400. Place tomatoes with liquid in medium bowl. Add garlic and stuffing mix and 1/2 cup water; stir just until stuffing mix is moistened. Set Aside.
Place chicken in 9×13 pan; sprinkle with basil and cheese. Top with stuffing mixture.
Bake 30 minutes or until chicken is cooked through

Italian Chops
Sunday, February 25th, 2007Italian Chops
Serves Four
4 tablespoons olive oil
4 pork chops – bone in (Available in the Frozen section. I prefer the center-cut chops, but the assorted variety are slightly cheaper)
1 can diced tomatoes – in juice
2 teaspoons Italian Seasonings Blend spices
¼ cup white wine (anything you would drink)
1 pound angel hair pasta (Note- there are times where this type of pasta is not available. You can substitute this ingredient with a box of thin spaghetti)
Heat the oil in a heavy large skillet over medium heat. Sprinkle the pork chops with salt and pepper. Add the pork chops to the skillet and cook until they are brown approximately 3 minutes per side. Transfer the pork chops to a plate and tent with foil to keep them warm. Add white wine to the pan and deglaze the pan with a whisk (getting up all of the drippings from the pan). Add the tomatoes with their juices, and spices.. Cover and simmer until the flavors blend and the juices thicken slightly, stirring occasionally, about 15 minutes. Season the sauce, to taste, with salt.. Return the pork chops and any accumulated juices from the plate to the skillet and turn the pork chops to coat with the sauce. Meanwhile, cook pasta until al dente and then drain. Place 1 pork chop on top of the angel hair pasta onto each plate and spoon the sauce over the pork chops and pasta.

Hi, My Name is Aldi Queen
Thursday, February 22nd, 2007Any fan of our website, MomAdvice.com, knows that I am obsessed with Aldi Supermarket. My site contains menu planners and information on the store and I never expected the response that we received from these planners. We received thousands and thousands of hits a month searching for this type of information. It was one of those times were I felt like I hit a nail square on the head and I was actually onto something.
The menu planners were very extensive though and took forever to post. There had to be an easier way than posting twenty pages of planners on our site. That is when I came up with the idea to create an online cookbook where you could actually glimpse into the kitchen of an Aldi chef. A cook who prefers the goodness of homecooked foods, but understands the necessity for a budget in a single income family.
Unlike my other blog, The Motherload, I will not be sharing any tips in this dose of bloggy goodness. This will simply be recipes and nutritional information on dishes you can throw together for your family utilizing only Aldi ingredients. I make my disclaimer now that I am not a professional chef or a professional food photographer. If the recipes do not appeal to you, please don’t voice criticism and just hold out for a recipe that will work well for your family.
The only ingredients that I am including that may not be available at Aldi is yeast and basic dried seasonings. Yeast will be an essential part of cooking and can be picked up at any store (most affordably at your warehouse store). While yeast is available around the holiday season at Aldi, it is not available year-round, thus you may need to purchase that one at another store. Dried herbs will be included, as I feel most cooks have those already within their pantry.
I hope that you will enjoy this as much as our other blog. I am excited to be sharing all of my recipes with you!
Aldi Supermarket: Price Sheet & Store Information
Tuesday, August 15th, 2006I put together a list of pricing, last year, of items at Aldi Supermarket. I am posting the information here and providing you a list of all the prices on the items that Aldi carries. I do want to say, I am in no way affiliated with or receive any benefits from promoting Aldi Supermarket. I am just a mom who happens to love shopping there and saving our family money. The prices listed are what they were this past winter- the pricing may have changed, however, Aldi usually does not do a dramatic change in their pricing so this should be an accurate portrayal of their current prices. The items that have a star next to them are items that are carried seasonally or the item prices change according to the season/farmers. They may or may not be available at the time you come to visit the store.
The sizing and prices are listed on the items as best as I could do. If you do not like the arrangement or the ordering, feel free to do changes on your own sheet. I literally spent three straight hours on a Sunday afternoon working on this. I was leaning over stacks of food (with my big pregnant belly) trying to write everything down on top of random cans. I hope that this work will benefit someone out there!!
If you are unhappy with a product from Aldi PLEASE do not email me. I cannot tell you how many “Dear Aldi,” emails that I receive. If you are dissatisfied with a product from this store, take it back to your local store. They do not have an email address or anyone who can answer your phone calls. Bring the item back to the store and receive another item for free plus your money back. That is how it works and I have no control over refunds or if your store no longer carries a particular item. Like I said, I do not work for the store- so sorry!
If you are looking for more information on Aldi Supermarket, please visit our articles on MomAdvice.com. Here are a few that are related to this store:

Feel free to add to our list in the comments section. See a new product? Tried something you loved? Tried something you absolutely hated? Share away! Please share our site and our blog with your friends. You all keep my site up and running & help to motivate me to continue doing what I am doing here in the internet world.

Why I Shop at Aldi
Wednesday, August 24th, 2005Yes, I know that you think that I have given up on blogging, considering how infrequently I have been updating this, but the website has taken precedence over blogging these days.
I have had many projects in the works for the past few months and one of them has been creating a menu plan just made from ingredients purchased at Aldi’s. I had decided to make it my goal to create a month’s worth of meals, complete with a price book, of dishes you could make from this supermarket. You will see this up on our website at some point, but it is going to take awhile since it is 25 pages of information for my husband to post for me. I could see him visibly cringe as I revealed that I had finally completed my masterpiece, and oh by the way, it is 25 pages that need to be broken down by meal, by tip, by item, by grocery list, etc… Considering his busy schedule it might be a little while before it is up, but in the meantime I did write an article on Aldi so make sure you check that out too. You can also show your appreciation to me by clicking our Google advertisements, on our site, so I can continue wasting time on the internet and claiming it is research for all of you.
Now the main question that people have been asking me since I wrote this article has been if I have been endorsed by the company in any way, shape or form. I never approached the company about my idea, but considering their “no frills” approach to the grocery experience, I doubt if I could get anything for my efforts anyway. I would love some money, of course, but would settle for a few other perks from them. VIP parking, no deposit on my cart, free bags, a small discount….well, that is just to name a few. For all the business that I have been bringing them, a small spokesperson position would be lovely too.
We shop at Aldi once every two weeks, in an effort to save our family some money, and I usually take my son with me to do the shopping there. Now my son can be a real handful, at times, but he is also is about the friendliest child you will ever meet. He is very persistent in getting to know every single person around us whether we are at the grocery store, the gas station, a public restroom, a restaurant. You see his love for people just has absolutely no boundaries.
Now, not to characterize the average Aldi shopper, but just like any other grocery store, there are some interesting people shopping at the store while we are there. Ethan does not seem to mind if these people have absolutely no interest in him or if they are particularly weird, he just prevails on…”Look! Look! LOOK! Look at my dinosaurs!” or “Hi! Hi! HI! HI!” until he receives an acceptable response. If no response is given he will continue on until he, at the very least, gets a nod from the person who could care less about the engaging conversation that he has to offer.
Now in spirit of the interesting shoppers, I have been meaning to blog about my particular experience that I had as I was shopping at the store one day with my son. We were just beginning our shopping and we were headed towards the milk, when we overheard (I use this term loosely since she was shouting at the top of her lungs) a young woman on her cell phone. Always a people-watcher, I pretended to browse the milk section (believable isn’t it considering there are only three types of milk there) as she was talking, just to get a closer look at her. Here is how her conversation went…
“No, you will NOT be moving back to my f*?%$#$@ house and sleeping on my f*&^%$#@@@ floor and I will NOT put up with your f%$#@$% s%$#@ anymore you, f$#@$% piece of s%$#%. NO, NO, NO, F&^%$ Y&^%#! Mother @#%###@”
As the woman hung up the phone, she then repeated exactly what she said to her girlfriend who was standing next to her. I then wondered if she had no idea how loud she was or if she had any idea that every single person in the store had stopped to watch her in disgust and/or amazement. Apparently oblivious to us, she continued repeating word for word what she had told this guy on the phone as though we all had not witnessed her nasty vocabulary.
Now this, in and of itself, was a classic moment in supermarket visit history for me, but I haven’t gotten to the good part yet….are you ready?
So then her phone starts to ring and I begin to unconsciously hum along to the ringer tone. Was her ringer tone hard core gangster rap? Well, considering her language that is exactly what I had expected….but no….that would not be very funny, now would it?
Are you ready????
Her ringer tone was, “Our God Is an Awesome God.” (this is a popular Christian hymn, for all of you heathens out there!)
When it finally registered what I was humming along with, I had to run away from the milk section so that I would not bust up laughing and become the new target of this woman’s anger.
Apparently, I caught her in a fallen moment from her Lord, but it certainly brought some irony to the situation.
I just don’t think you can have an experience like that at any other supermarket and that is just one, of many reasons, why I shop Aldi Supermarket.
