We finished our last day of school on Friday.  That week was extremely busy and I found myself scrambling on Thursday to pull together teacher gifts to give to our teachers. In year’s past, I just bought each teacher a bouquet of flowers. This year, I wanted to try making the fabric rings that were featured in our notebook on Make It Do instead and thought it would be a great craft to do with my kids.

I don’t sew and didn’t have any fabric laying around so I opted to follow the directions for this project, but replace the fabric with ribbon instead. The ring forms were found in the jewelry-making supplies at Michael’s ($2.99 for six ring bases) and I was ready to go.

You really could do just about any width of ribbon between 5/8″ and eve up to 1 1/2″ depending on how big you would like your ring or what you already have in your craft supplies. I will say that the lighter colored ribbon was easier to work with because the darker ribbon showed any little blob of glue that got stuck to it.

I couldn’t wait to make a few for myself and, of course, my glue gun conked out on me and I will have to buy another one. Luckily, it had enough steam in it to make the gifts and I am so proud of how they turned out!

We paired these rings with big bags of  Honey Nut Granola, tied with some yellow ribbon. I made a double batch and then baked it in the oven while I worked on the ribbon rings. I also tried to write a heartfelt note to each teacher to tell them what they have meant to our family. I have a feeling that these mean a lot more than any gift card or gift I could create for them- at least I hope they do!

Do you do teacher gifts? What did you make this year or what have you done in past years? I would love to hear your ideas!

This is our last week of school & we are wicked busy so I know just what you mean….I’ll be back later to post some of the ideas we have used. My oldest is in 7th grade so we’ve been at this for a few years;o) I ADORE your rings. They are just too cute! The note IS what the teachers love the best….I always get thanked for those (and told how few they really get, so they do indeed treasure them).

This was my son’s first year of preschool. For a simple thank you as I dropped him off on the last day I asked the teachers if I could take a photo of them with Noah. I came home, printed it out and made it into a thank you card.

Hi, Amy, thanks for stopping by & letting me know about your camera. I can’t wait to get mine in & start playing with it.

Hang in there, you will have tomatoes soon too! They are one of my fave things about summer.

I was able to do half of the teachers (I ran out of time). My son in Pre-K had 2 teachers and for them I hand crocheted their last name in doilies (to lay on a table or to be matted and framed). For my other 2 sons teacher’s I just had to throw a quick bag together with a key-chain with their last initial, an apple “post-it” note pad, pen, and I forgot what else). I used the printable tags from Janna Wilson’s blog (very cute).

oh, let me just tell you how much the teachers will LOVE the notes especially! When I taught that was the best thing I got…besides chocolate of course. But the notes are tucked away in a keepsake box to remember the difference I made in this kid’s lives. So, keep doing that for sure, it will be appreciated much more than any “thing” you could give.

I put together baskets for my kids teachers that had a cute kitchen towel, a scraper & spatula set tied with a ribbon and some baked goods (brownies & cookies) wrapped in colored saran wrap & tied with a ribbon. I then wrote a little note on a recipe card that said, “Thanks for cooking up a sweet year” and added a $5 gift card from Starbucks. Probably spent a little more than I have in the past on little plants, but I saw this idea online and thought it was clever.

Oh, I want one of these! So adorable :)

We got inexpensive freshwater pearl bracelets for my son’s teachers. They have been his teachers for 2 years and this was his last year with them (kindergarten next year). They’ve been amazing and he’s made sooooo much progress with them, so we wanted to give them something special. Got a note a few days later in the mail from one of the teachers. Pearls are her birthstone and she’s always wanted some. Love making people happy like that!
