Being new parents, we really miss the time we used to share, so one night a week, when he comes home (he is a restaurant manager, so it's late- like 1am when he gets home), I will still be awake, and we take a midnight stroll down the road at our apartment- it is a very short distance, and it's usually when we walk the trash down to the end of the road- and even though it only lasts 10 minutes, it's quiet and romantic walking back. Then we go in and eat a late dinner, and we go to bed. It doesn't last long, but it's special time for us, makes chores fun, and I'm no more than a few yards away from the baby at all times. :)

I love the idea of exchanging babysitters with a friend. This gives both couples the benefit of alone time without having to fork out the money for a sitter. :) The book club is also cute. My good friend and her husband read to each other one night a week.

Thanks for sharing your ideas. I emailed a link to some of my young-married friends.
As college students my then-boyfriend & I would walk around the beautiful lakes in Minneapolis, talking, dreaming, laughing.
Today, 20 years later, we still enjoy walking, now by the Detroit river front, talking, laughing & dreaming, remembering God's amazing faithfulness!

Great ideas!

I love going to TCBY for frozen yogurt with my hubby. We did this when we were dating, and would stay and talk for hours, so it brings back good memories.

One of our best dates is going to the gym together, we're more flirtatious than anywhere else, we encourage each other, and it's good for us! We also like to go jogging together in the park, or go for long walks.

Shannon

I did Wine Tasting with my boyfriend the other night. We had a blast. I just google wine and food pairings online. I decided on Cabernet as our wine of choice and got a list of cheeses, fruit, and chocolate to go with the wine. I made a list and went to Trader Joe's and got 2 bottles of wine ($20), 2 different cheeses ($8), fresh baked bread ($3), some fruit ($5), chocolate ($4), and a quick ready made Waldorf salad ($5). Total was $45 (can be cheaper with cheaper wine). I set the table with platters of the food and candles and flowers that he picked up on the way home. We had so much fun trying the wine with each different food. Each food changes the tase of the wine. And we would talk and compare with each other. We only ended up finishing 1 bottle of wine so the actual cost for that night was $35.

Love the post. Sometimes it's difficult to find time for your significant other when you have kids. And then when you have the time sometimes it's difficult not to fall asleep out of sheer exhaustion ;)

With a very tight budget these days, I came up with $10 date ideas. Our current favorites are: (1)Dinner and a Movie: a hotdog and soda at CostCo ~ $3 total. Then grabbing a movie-sized box of candy from Kmart or Walmart or the like ~ $2 total. Then heading off to the dollar theater on half-priced Tuesdays ~ $2 total.
Our second favorite: going to Sonic during Happy Hour for their half priced drink specials ~ $3 at the most here. Then grabbing a Little Ceasar's Pizza ~ $5 ~ and heading to a scenic area to sit and eat and drink and catch up. With five kids, we love getting to talk without being interrupted!
There are lots of other possibilities ~ $10 really can go a long way!!

Thank you for sharing all of these great ideas. I've been wanting to plan a weekly date night for us, but needed some good ideas that we could do at home after the boys are in bed. :-)

I love these ideas! My husband and I connect by walking our dog. We are lucky to live on the edge of Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. During the week after working long days, we drop the Blackberrys at home, grab the dog and head out for 45 minutes to an hour. It's so nice to enjoy the outdoors with no distractions. We just stroll through the park and catch up with each other. It's one of my most favorite things to do :)

Amy, I look forward to seeing you at BlogHer!

-Rachel
methodhome.com
