I like the idea of the beach bag ready to go. We are always heading off somewhere just for me to have to turn around and grab something we forgot. This will be handy. Thanks for the ideas.

Excellent post, Amy! Love how well-prepared you are. And I wish I could enjoy a not-disgusting midwest summer with you... Seems like I only live in climates that require us to sweat indoors 24/7. Guess I reap the benefits in the winter!

This post got me all choked up, Amy! I live in sunny California, but I still try to make summer fun. This year, I was afraid our summer would be ruined as we had to move unexpectedly (landlord lost their home!), but I'm not going to let that happen. I work outside the home, but am taking days off as much as possible.

Today, even though we're surrounded by moving boxes that need to be unpacked, we're heading off in the car to Zuma Beach for a fun-filled day!!

I miss being a SAHM, and hope to work from home soon - your posts remind me why!

I'm always so impressed with your perspective on life -- and you provide good food for thought on the type of mom I strive to be. Thanks for a great post!

Oh how I wish we could spend hours upon hours outdoors like you can!! I miss my IN summers!!!

Since it's over 90 every day (and feels closer to 100 w/the humidity!) in the summer we have limited time outside. But when we are outside in the early morning and early evening we try to make it fun too.

My son loves "cutting the grass" w/his bubble mower while daddy cuts it for real. A kiddie pool in the shade is a must, as are bubbles, spray bottles full of water, and sprinkler mats.

I'll have to try your sponge ball project and see what comes of that!

Michelle- LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the shaving cream idea! I am so doing that- thank you for the inspiration for some new activities to do outdoors. I really appreciate it.

FishMama- I am so sorry. My computer crashed last night and I thought that had been linked. It was corrected- thank you for letting me know!

Yep, along with Heather (comment above), I am from the Midwest (MN) and fully appreciate any beautiful day I can be outdoors. I have learned to do many of those things you mentioned! I also plan my dinners around the weather, so if I want to bake something I plan it for a cooler day or do it early in the morning or later at night.

One other activity our kids enjoy is a plastic easel outside to paint on. My husband gets hives with the kids do crafts, so this keeps everyone happy (and hive-free) and there isn't any pressure to remember to get it in before it rains because it is plastic. (I think it is Little Tikes).

Oh! And another fun idea - spray shaving cream on the patio table and let the kids draw images into it. Rinse it off when you are done (it will be shiny clean) and send them through the sprinklers to clean them off!
