I am back from The Mike & Juliet Show and am trying to recover from a terrible head cold that I caught on my way out there.
You can watch the segment here on Work-At-Home Scams. I am sure I don’t have to tell you that I am disappointed that I did not get to share with women what a wonderful resource MomAdvice.com could be for helping moms navigate working-from-home. My soul purpose to leave my family for two days was to be able to help educate women on work-at-home scams and showcase a true work-at-home success story. Time ran out and I am very sorry for that because I had a lot to share.
You can’t control live television, I have discovered, and sometimes the opportunities pan out and sometimes they don’t. I once did a news segment on behalf of a company and they would not agree to say my website and the company I was representing because it was too long. After hours of preparation and a sleepless night trying to get ready for it, that was my first taste of how things different things can be, particularly when you are working with a show that is not local.
As I stood backstage this week, I talked with another one of the guests about that mystery shopping scam that was highlighted in the segment. I told her that there are legitimate opportunities out there and that I would be happy to share with her real information on mystery shopping. Perhaps, that was my moment and the reason for me coming there or maybe my story will help another mom who is struggling financially and looking for work. It is desperate times like these in the economy, when people find themselves victims of these scams because they are trying to put food on the table for their families.
I spent $45 on this trip on just eating. It was one of those things that I obviously could not control, which makes me sad since I had done so well on the No Spend Challenge so far. I am bummed, but I am still proud of how well I have managed this month with three out-of-town trips.

I watched it and thought you did great! It was a bummer that your time got cut short.
Way to go!

Your shoes are very cool. I’m sorry you didn’t get to plug your site but hey you got more practice being on live TV. I don’t think I could do that. Do you get nervous?
[Reply]
Man, that’s a bummer. I’m sorry.
We’re here though, we always have time for you. We don’t need no stinkin’ TV.

Amanda- Thanks for the compliments on the shoes! You know, I am usually nervous the night before and then I go into this auto-pilot mode when I know I am on camera. I don’t notice anything around me (my husband asked if I realize that people had clapped and I honestly didn’t). I also use the wise words from my business coach, Charrise McCrorey- “Show up powerfully.” That is exactly what I have been working on doing when these things come up. That might be a fun topic though to talk about- thank you for asking!

Amy, I watched it and you know, maybe it was just talking to that one person- you never know where that could take you or if this made a connection for you in some other way that will present itself later on. I hope you feel better about it as you start feeling better yourself (so sorry you have a cold!)

Amy, you did great! And you never know, everything happens for a reason. I’m sure you had that opportunity come up for a reason, you may not know why for awhile, but everything always comes full circle.
The producer knows what a great site you have, and maybe they will call again sometime will another segment.
Hope you are feeling better real soon.

Oh, Amy! I am so proud of you! I can tell you are disappointed by the time being cut short, but really, what an amazing experience and opprotunity! I am really, really proud of you. And yeah, you totally rocked the shoes!
[Reply]
Thank you, guys, for making me feel better about this. I am sure my head cold isn’t helping my attitude today
As for the shoes, RUN to Payless! These are from there- they started carrying Dexter brand and these are the most comfortable heels I have ever owned. I need to pitch myself as a spokesperson to Payless
I love their stuff!

You looked great and you sounded so professional. I’m sure God has a reason you were invited to share on this show.
[Reply]
Amy, I think you did great. It can be so disappointing when the circumstances are beyond our control – but you do a lot of great work every day, and I’m so thankful to “know” you!
[Reply]
You looked poised and polished, Amy! It was their loss that they didn’t make time for a true success story.
And hey, won’t any costs associated with your trip at least be tax deductible?
[Reply]
Amy, you did great! And, I agree w/ Amanda… your shoes are HAWT!
Why weren’t you on stage?!
You did a great job! I wish you could have plugged your site, too, but I’m sure ppl will find a way to you, anyway! Your site is such a valuable resource.
I truly hope you are feeling better soon. I have a major sinus problem right now, so I’m feelin’ your pain.
(And, I’m totally going to Payless for a pair of those hawt shoes!)

Can’t wait to watch the segment! They preempted all our daily TV shows here yesterday for Mardi Gras coverage so I didn’t see it. Thanks for the link!!
[Reply]
Amy- Run, run, run to Payless.
I was confused too about sitting in the audience. I guess they put part of their guests in the audience and part of them up front to make the show more interactive?
[Reply]
I just wrote an update! Travelling definite made it difficult! You did great on M and J! I wish you coulda plugged the site
Next time!!!

Love the shoes! Glad NYC was such a great experience. Don’t give yourself such a hard time about the spending!
[Reply]
that’s a bummer that they don’t give you enough comping to cover all your meals. but good for you for spending sooo little.
[Reply]
I agree, cutest shoes ever! You did well on the segment. I would not be able to talk so eloquently. You have helped so many with your site, and maybe sharing that information with the one person was why you were sent there.
[Reply]
Amy, if it’s February 25th and you’ve only spent $45 during you “no spend month,” I think you are doing an AMAZING job! An A-M-A-Z-I-N-G job! That is completely wonderful!
What you said was excellent. And really, you never know when you are placed for “such a time as this.” Great job!
[Reply]
Amy, you did great! It is very possible that the Lord allowed you to travel there for that one woman you spoke with. I called our local affliate and told them you would be on. If you don’t have an exclusivity agreement with the local station you are on regularly I can give you my connection here (with the Fox station) and I know they are very interested in doing a segment on you site.
God Bless, Pam

Of course, my opinion is bias – but I think you did a great job! It seems that you have / had SO MUCH more information to share than the woman who was on the stage.
[Reply]
I’m so glad you posted the link, I forgot and missed the show. That is terrible they didn’t even say the name of your site. How cool you got to go though!
[Reply]
Proud of you Amy. I know exactly what you mean when you don’t get your message out (that you intended). I’ve had the same thing happen (flew across they country – they pd, thank goodness).
Keep on encouraging moms!

I just got to watch the vid. You did great!! You were so polished and had so much info to share!! Great job!
[Reply]
Although it didnt work out the way you planned Amy …you looked GREAT!! We had fun watching you on tv, good job!

I was surprised by how short your time was and that you were sitting in the audience. I wish they would have spent more time on you. Good job.

p.s. Yes pitch yourself to Payless!!!!!!
[Reply]
I thought you looked great and were very professional and wel spoken…I wish they had just featured YOU, though!
p.s. hot shoes there missy!

Please don’t be bummed about spending money while out of town – you have seriously rocked this challenge. I, on the other hand, have seriously failed! Keep up the great work – it is hard having your own business, I know!
But, when you are basically good with good intentions and a moral ethic, good things will come your way – you will probably be surprised how this trip ends up working for you or leading to something else that does.
[Reply]
Don’t waste a minute worrying about the money you spent while on your trip! You have done awesome in this challenge!!

One of the women on our blog was on the M&J; show once, and it was the same scenario. They interviewed her as she sat in audience, and she didn't have a lot of time to speak and didn't get the chance to plug our blog. Oh, well… at least you got a trip to NYC, regardless if you spent a little money. You looked great!
