The Motherload Blog

I never did use my free coffee coupon at the airport and decided to save it as my reward for good grocery shopping. I love to give myself a little reward for staying on budget. It is usually a giant Diet Coke for a $1 at McDonald’s, but I thought I would use my coupon instead and stay true to the challenge.

The grocery shopping took much longer than I had anticipated though so once again I find this coupon is still waiting for me for when I need a little pick-me-up.

I budgeted $250 for groceries and I spent $219, leaving me just enough for our milk money for the rest of the month. I tried to cash on the coupons that I have been hording for a rainy day. I hope that we can stay on budget and I can prove to myself that with good discipline and thoughtfulness that we can put away more money than we thought.

I just wanted to mention that, here (DE), McDonald’s is giving away free McCafe all month during breakfast hours, no purchase necessary. Hope this helps someone.

Amy, you are truly inspiring me! I have thought it was impossible to do a no spend month, esp while traveling! And time and again, your dedication and commitment have inspired me. Way to go!!!

Karen- I got a SmartShopper to review and that is how I made it. It is a cute little gadget that would be fun for a holiday gift. Here is a link to it:

You just talk into it and it makes a list. It needs to recognize your voice so it took a little work for me. I think I must have a high-pitched whine or something, but it is finally working now :) I try to talk like a man in it and then it picks up my voice :) Ha!!

Letters to Elijah- That should last close to three or four weeks, hopefully. I usually spend about $250 for a month. We ate down our pantry these past two weeks though to help stay under budget with the No Spend Challenge so I may have to bulk it back up :)

    I hope that helps!

Nice work Amy! This no-spend month has been such a great opportunity to cook around all the extra stuff sitting in our pantry (how do I wind up with this stuff? lesson learned!). It’s so freeing to be rid of it, and fun to find a new recipe to cook!
