I have finished my snowy day scarf and it turned out beautifully! I loved how this scarf turned out so much that I decided to make it for a few more gifts for holiday-giving this year. I was planning to finish it with some tassels, but after tying some tassels to the edges, I decided to take them out because I liked it without them more.

Ethan liked this scarf so much that he now wants me to make one of these for his teacher. We headed over to Michael’s and he picked out a soft icy blue for the scarf to be knitted out of. It was so fun to see him think so hard about what color he wanted to give to her. He truly loves his teacher. In fact, on his report card it said, “Ethan tells me he loves me every single day.” I hope he is always this tender and sweet.

I am saving those tubes that my Crystal Light drink mix comes in to use for my holiday drink mixes this year. I wrapped this one in some holiday gift wrap and wrapped it around the tube, sealing with a little Elmer’s glue to hold it in place. I used my handy little circle punch to make a gift tag to label the drink mix and tied it off with a little raffia. I thought it turned out so cute and, best of all, it was something that would have gone into my recycling.

The scarf is wrapped in ribbon I bought at the end of season last year on clearance. I think it looks so pretty and festive with this bow on it.

Total cost with ingredients, yarn, and wrapping- approximately $5!

Back to the knitting needles to replicate this a couple of more times- once for my postal worker who has worked so hard helping deliver boxes to my house all year long and another for our special teacher. If I can squeeze another one in, it will be for one of his bus drivers and the other (a gentleman) will get a special goody box delivery.

What teacher gifts do you have planned this year? What do you do for those special helpers in your life (the mail carrier, the bus driver, the hair dresser, etc..)?

Those extra people on my list who do special things for us throughout the year get a tin of homemade cookies and mini loaves of yummy quick breads!

Theresa- Do you have a row counter? I had to use that or I lost my train of thought.

I just finished another scarf this weekend so I will post that pattern next. I decided to do a different pattern to keep things interesting ;)

I am heading over to check out your next pattern ;)

That scarf is beautiful! I might have to try knitting that one myself once January rolls around and things are less busy around here.

I have a question about the drink mixes — are you putting them directly into the can or putting them in something else first? Just wondering if the can on its own seals good enough to keep it fresh. Great reusability idea there!

So so pretty! I love the way you redid the Crystal Light container.

I found a really neat recipe for red and white swirl cookie sandwiches in Southern living. They look like peppermint candies. I think I am making those and putting them in some festive tins. I’m also going to print the pictures I took at the field trip and school party I volunteered at and put them in a small inexpensive album (I have seen some cute ones at Dollar Tree) for Miss C’s first grade teacher. Last time I helped out at a party she said she’d love copies of the pictures I took.

Kari- I was just planning on putting the mix right in, but I think it will depend on the brand you buy and what the lid looks like. Target brand & Aldi brand have tight fitting lids. There was one brand that had a ridged top that I had trouble getting off (let alone sealing anything) and it might be Walmart, but I can't remember. Just take a peek at the lids before you buy. If it doesn't seal, you could always put it in a baggie and slide it inside the container.

    I hope helps!

Jamie- I think that is a FABULOUS idea. I bet your teacher will really love that.

Momma Bear- KnittingHelp.com is what I used to help me learn. That scarf is very easy- only need to know two basic stitches and that is it. Nothing fancy, it just looks fancy :)

    Keep those ideas coming!!

Yay! Got the comment thing to work!

As I told you, I love the scarf. Maybe next year I’ll be able to do that myself for some gifts!

One gift that I do every year for the kids’ teachers is a little picture frame ornament (I got some this year at Hobby Lobby for $3 each) with a picture of the kids in them. Last year I also did a cookie mix. I think I might do that again this year and/or some mini loaves of some kind of yummy bread. Or maybe those cute hot cocoa cones that Oprah had on her website. I actually found some for sale at CVS but figured it wouldn’t be that expensive to do myself.

    AnneMarie,

That is a great idea too! I will post my Cocoa recipe on Monday- it is really rich and yummy. Oh, and you can make it out of Aldi ingredients :)

Sorry about the commenting thing- not sure what happened there.

What a great teacher gift!! My son has 4 teachers though, I wonder how fast I can knit, it’s been awhile. And I am SO excited to make the chi tea. Looks like a trip to Michaels in the morning! Thanks for the great idea. I love your blogs and your tips on Aldi have been saving me lots of money.

I knew there was a use for those containers but I just couldn’t think of what it was. I fight the urge to save every bottle, box and container that comes into my home.

(What about those coffee creamer containers? Oh, and the green ones that nuts come in? They have a wonderful screw on lid. I may have a container illness of some sort.)

And I love the pink scarf.

    Leslie-

I am the SAME exact way. I horde containers because I figure there has to be another good use for them. Those seem like a no-brainer keeper because the contents inside isn’t even messy :)

Those nut containers are great. I actually get wallpaper borders and use those to recover them- they are the perfect size!!

Thanks to everyone on the compliments on the scarf- I am a knitting fool these days.

I love the scarf! I wish I knew how to knit. Maybe I will ask for a stater kit for Christmas!

Today at the Cyber Monday sales I got a bunch of reusable water bottles to give out as gifts. I also got some really cute fleece gloves from Old Navy. Both items were less than $5 each and had free shipping. I will combine them with a small bag of cookies.

I tried to subscribe to your blog as I would like to enter the $500 Walmart giftcard giveaway. Not sure if I was successful.

For the holidays I have many four legged friends that I like to give gifts to. To save lots of money, I make my own doggie treats and wrap them in canisters from the dollar store.
