The Motherload Blog

One of our most popular articles on our site is the Frugal Mom’s Guide to Coffee so I thought it would be great to do a segment on coffee as a You Tube clip. This segment breaks down the cost comparison between a drip coffee maker and a pod brew system. I tried to share some of the features that I love on my coffee maker and how to care for your coffee maker so you always have a fresh cup.

If you are in the market for a new coffee maker, I did find the best price on my Cuisinart Brew Central Coffee Maker at Sam’s Club. My local price is listed as $54.86. In the departments stores I have seen this model range between $80-129, but if you know of anywhere else that carries it cheaper, please leave a comment!

I got the opportunity to plug my experience with my coffee maker for an article in Woman’s World Magazine. The article is set to hit the newsstands on August 18th with a cover date of August 25th. They found me when looking for a frugal mom who was a self-confessed coffee fanatic and I guess they thought I fit that bill perfectly!

As I had discussed before, I will be working with Wal-Mart to provide content for a new You Tube channel. I wanted to include a list of the participants because they are all so great and I am excited to see what each of them comes up with! I look forward to working with each of them and please check their sites out for more money-saving tips!

We have two regulars and two on special occasions! This coffee maker is very similar to ours, and we have a matching coffee bean grinder, which broke within the first month of use!! We got another one, and hopefully this one will last!

letters to elijah- well, that has to be cheaper than a candle :) I guess you could break it out when you wanted a fresh coffee scent!

I am loving the video series!

I’m the only coffee drinker and I LOVE my french press. It makes just enough for me and tastes excellent.

We have a Senseo pod system and love it. It makes one serving (small or large) and we have no wasted coffee. I like it because you brew what you want when you want it and it’s always fresh. My hubby and I don’t drink a lot – one cup every day or two – so the cost of the pods evens out for us. You can even get tea pods for it and that’s great too!

Niki- Oh, nothing compares to Tori Spelling ;) That is great! The article will just be a little side bar. Nothing too big- they interview people about their favorite products (Olympic swimmers on their favorite waterproof mascara, tired moms on their favorite coffee makers) I wasn’t sure if it would get picked because they were looking for one with a really low price point and mine was a little high end, but they decided to let me talk about it anyway :)

We have a Mr. Coffee cofeemaker with many of the features of your Cuisenart. I bought it at Walmart for around $35. So far it’s served us well.

Another great video, Amy, you’re doing awesome with these!

We have that exact same Cuisinart. I bought ours at Sam’s Club, for my Christmas present, 2 1/2 years ago. We use it every day, usually making 12 cups a day. We have a separate Cuisinart coffee grinder (the small one, not the burr grinder) that we use to grind our beans. I had looked at the Cuisinart grind and brew, but had a friend who hated hers. She said it was a pain to clean, so we went with this one and have been very happy with it. It’s “hiccuped” a time or two in the last few months – stops mid brewing or cuts off before it has finished brewing. I hope it doesn’t give out anytime soon, but if it does, I will replace it with another Cuisinart. We’re really happy with this one.

    Have a great day!

I just checked the price of that coffeemaker on the Sam’s Club website and it came up with a price of $49.83! I’m guessing we’re looking at the same Sam’s Club, so the price seems to have gone down. Might have to get one of those for myself….been looking to replace the one I’ve had since before I got married!

AnneMarie- Wow, that is good to know because I checked it right before I did that segment and it was pricing in at about $55. I really and truly love it and it is a good coffee maker for the money. 85 out of 100 Consumer Reports points too :) Then I can come over to your house and have a cup there too :)

Amy, congrats on all your new ventures!

I had a Krups machine that I loved but as the main coffee addict of my home it was hard to keep up with the cleaning and the coffee and grinder, and I wasted a lot of coffee. So now I have the Senseo and I buy Timothy’s pods really cheap and I love the taste and convenience and the foamy top makes it feel like Starbucks to me.

My husband is a coffee-master at Starbucks so we drink TONS of coffee. About once a year they have big sales on coffee makers there. And… yes… the press is the best coffee and the cheapest too!

    Great review!
