I did pretty good at CVS this week because of my frequent visits to the in-store coupon machine. By combining the coupons from the machine with the manufacturer coupons, I have been scoring some great deals. I zipped by there on my way to pick up my goodies for the week and managed to print out a $1.00 off coupon for the Kotex Pantiliners deal.
I was planning to use my $2 off of $10 purchase, but was told that my coupon was denied because I had used the maximum amount of CVS coupons that I could use during one transaction. Has anyone ever heard of this before? This was news to me, and I was a little disappointed since I was hoping to get out there for about $5.
From this week’s flier:
2 Colgate Toothpastes at $3.29 each. CVS Sale for B1G1 Free and used $1.00 off coupon in the paper combined with a $1.00 off CVS coupon (from in-store machine), Total price $1.29 or $.65 each.
1 Kotex Light Days Pads $1.49 each. Used coupon for $.75 off (from paper or print coupon here) & an in-store coupon for $1.00 off and received $1.49 in ECB back. Credit of $1.75
1 Playskool Wipes (160 count). Used $2 off coupon (in this week’s paper) and $2.00 coupon from CVS in-store machine. Total cost $1.79.
1 Schick Intuition 3-ct cartridge at $9.49. Received $5 in ECB back. Total cost $4.49. This wasn’t a great deal, but I thought I had a coupon for another $3 off, but it applied to another style of cartridge. I still needed the cartridges though so I went ahead and bought it.
All in all, I spent $10.08 for this week’s purchases. Total savings was $15.04 and $6.49 back in ECB.

Unless it is from the physical magazine, the physical magazine, the PDF version of the coupon is not considered valid by CVS. Check out the CVS forum at Hot Coupon World. They were contacted by CVS and told to pass the word on to their readers not to use it.
Basically CVS is telling people not to use internet printable CVS coupons. They are only allowing the ones that print out at the kiosk or your receipt and ones mailed directly to you in your email or mailbox. Or if you have a coupon in your physical newspaper.

Thank you, that makes more sense than the reason that she gave me which was that I had used the maximum amount of CVS coupons I could use in one transaction

You can’t use CVS coupons together in a transaction like that. you can’t use any x/xx if you are also using CVS coupons for $$ off of items. It wasn’t that the 2/10 was the printed coupon. As far as the whole not using the 2/10 coupon goes, that’s debatable. I’m still considering that one.

Hmm… do you mean that you can’t use a manufacturer coupon and a store coupon combined together? Because all of those actually went through, it was the $2 off of $10 purchase that would not be accepted because they said that CVS had a new policy on the amount of CVS coupons you could use in one transaction.

You exhaust me with this CVS posts! It is impressive that you are able to get such deals, but I don’t think I have the time or patience for figuring all this out….

I don’t have to post these anymore, I was just trying to help share the deals for the week.

It really depends on the CVS coupon. Some of them say they can’t be used with other CVS coupons and others don’t. Usually the CRT coupons are fine to use with a $/$ coupon (I do it all the time) and others (like the $2/1 CVS skincare coupon or the sunscreen coupon from Reinventing Beauty) can only be used by themselves. Does that make any sense? (I have been told before though that there is a max number of CVS coupons you can use in 1 transaction. No idea what that number is. Sorry.)

The CVS posts are very helpful for those of us who are not as good at figuring out the deals. Please continue posting!

Hmm, I posted a comment a moment ago, but it didn’t show up. Sorry if this is a duplicate!
I think the CVS posts are very helpful for those of us who are not good at figuring out the deals on our own. Please continue posting!

I have never had a problem with PDF CVS coupons. Plus, sometimes if you log into your extracare account from your computer, there are other coupons/extrabucks to use, which look different from the ones that print out of the register or kiosk. Those are good also. I used that $2/$10 coupon without a problem last week.

Unfortunately, I have found that the friendly CVS workers let me use several coupons, but the grumpy ones don’t. Kinda funny and weird at the same time.

Amy—I didn’t mean that you should stop posting about this. I said that it is impressive to see what you are able to accomplish…pointing out a weakness in myself is certainly not meant to criticize you. I am a big fan of your site….and everything you post.

I’ve never had a problem with the $2/$10, nor with combining that with other CVS coupons. What you’re not allowed to do is to use two of the same coupons in one transaction (i.e. the $2 CVS skincare). The CVS coupons almost always scan with no problems, so it’s just a matter of whether the cashier is being picky. Usually I have great cashiers!
The too-many-CVS-coupons is a valid issue, and one I learned early on. I emailed CVS customer care abut it and received a response explaining that you are allowed one man. coupon and one CVS coupon per item. So if you had a CVS coupon for each item, then the $2/$10 would have put you over the top. If you’d grabbed one more item, it would have worked. Still, it’s way better than Walgreens’ policy, which allows you just one coupon per item period!

Anonymous- Oh, thank you
Sorry, apparently I was having a bad day and took that the wrong way. I just wasn’t sure if I was annoying people with these posts.
Rose- That is EXACTLY the answer I was looking for. I think that is what happened when I went there. Thanks for explaining it!
