The Motherload Blog

I used to do a lot of CVS shopping, but with a fortress of toothpaste, deodorant, and toothbrushes in my closet, I took the summer off to enjoy the rewards from my past shopping. We were trying to enjoy being home more and saving on gas at the same time so CVS shopping took a backseat this summer.

I have been slowly whittling down my supply though so last week I started picking the shopping back up and am ready to get back in the CVS game again!

Here is what I bought this week and how I saved:

1 Alavert Allergy Tablets- $5.99, get $3 ECB, used printable coupon for $4 off= $1.01 credit
2 CVS SPF 50 Sunscreens- $4.99, on sale for $2.99, two minus $1 coupons (printed from CVS coupon machine in store) & $2 off 1 CVS Beauty Product =1. 98 for two or $.99 each
2 Right Guard Deodorants, $3.29 each, on sale for BOGO Free, $1 off & $.75 coupons in paper= $1.54 for two or $.77 each
2 Colgate Total White Toothpaste- $2.79 each, on sale for BOGO Free, used printable coupon for $1.50 off= $1.29 for two or $.65 each
1 CVS Ibuprofen- $3.19 each, CVS coupon on end of last week’s receipt for a free box= FREE
4 Oxy Daily Wash & Spot Treatment Products- $5.79 each, used $1 off coupon in paper, printable coupons here & here, got $6 ECB ($3 ECB when you buy two)= $8.87 for four or $2.22 each
Then I used the $2 off $10 coupon

After I used my ECB that I had from last week, I ended up paying $2.27 for my purchases & have $9 in ECB for next time. Total savings for this week’s purchases… $57.90!

I plan to head back this week to buy diapers. CVS is running a sale on Huggies Jumbo Packs for $8.99 each. In front of the diapers are $1.00 off coupons in a little SmartSource Coupon Machine so you can take $1 off each package, print out the $2 off $10 coupon, and get $5 back in ECB. Total spent on 3 Jumbo Packs of Huggies $16.97 or $5.66 per pack. Check Baby Cheapskate for a complete list of diaper & formula stock-up opportunities.

Be sure to visit Money Saving Mom for a complete list of ways you can save money on your CVS purchases!

If only the $2 off of $10 coupon were still there. Should be a lesson for us all to print quickly… and in multiples.

    Hey,

Don’t forget their back-to-school deals too. Bic has coupons for school supplies and CVS has some sales. I also paid 89 cents for a box of Kleenex which is also on the back to school list for my kid’s school. You should have the $10 off $50 coupon from your last purchase which seems like a lot but that back-to-school supply list adds up. Plus I love getting the Extra bucks back from this huge shopping chore.

Thanks for the heads up about the Huggies deal! I was on my way to CVS when I read this and was thrilled to be able to take advantage as we needed diapers this week!

    Yeah for great deals!

HOW do you have TIME to figure all this out?? I’m luck to have a moment to run in and grab something and to remember to use my CVS extra coupons before they expire.

    You are amazing and inspirational.

I will admit this took awhile, but it is almost like a game when you start doing it. We are going to try to make a trip to the local homeless shelter next week and this is a great way that we can make a donation without spending a lot of money. When I get back in the swing of things, it just becomes part of my Sunday routine. Of course, my hubby had to point out that I probably spent all my savings on the ink toner to print out all my coupons ;) Totally worth it though!!

    Hi Amy!
I’m not sure if you know about the Caregivers Marketplace? You can get $1.00 back per package of huggies, little swimmers, pull ups, etc. So far I’ve gotten $10.00 in rebates. Its a great program that has been mentioned on baby cheapsake and I think Money Saving Mom several times. Please check it out at http://www.caregiversmarketplace.com. Also great idea about giving the extra freebies to the homeless shelter. Thanks for all of your hard work to create a great site!

I’ve been on again off again for the CVS game too. I love getting the deals though!

I’m not sure where I got on the list, but I get a little age appropriate mailer every every so often with information and coupons for Huggies. If you buy them often I’d get on their site to see if you can get on the list. The coupons are usually $1.50 or $2 off. There are usually coupons for diapers, wipes and other products like body wash.

Nichole- I have heard of that program, I just haven’t taken advantage of it yet. Thank you so much for that reminder and I am sure you helped a lot of other people out there too! I am definitely going to do that this month, which will make those diapers an even better deal.

Stephanie- You know, I should sign up for that club. We were doing cloth diapers and I thought we wouldn’t have to ever buy them so I don’t think I signed up with Emily. We are almost to the end though (or so I hope), but I will go ahead and sign up for that too!!

    Lots of great ideas!!

Careful about highlighting those receipts! I hightlighted my ECB and the expiration date and within a few days, the numbers disappeared. They were still valid, but I had to USE them to find out their worth (bar code) which was annoying.

I took full advantage of that Huggies deal, using the $2/$10 coupon and doing three separate transactions. I even had two $1.50 off Huggies coupons, which made the deal even better! I had $5.00 in ECB from last week to apply, plus I did the Alavert deal with coupon for more ECB’s and I really scored some cheap Huggies! And now I have $5.00 for next week…gotta love CVS!
