We are trying to complete our homework for starting kindergarten and this week Ethan got his teeth cleaned. Ethan’s teeth looked beautiful, but we discovered a special secret that his mouth had been keeping… Ethan has his first loose tooth. He was so excited to tell me that his tooth was loose and I told him that I had a special book that I had been saving just for this occasion. Hidden in the depths of my closet, I have had a special tooth fairy set that we could get out when this momentous occasion happened.
As we sat down to read the book, Ethan admitted that he didn’t know which tooth felt loose. He showed me that he couldn’t wiggle it (wiggling side to side) and I showed him that you wiggle your tooth from front to back. The look of amazement on his face was priceless, “OH!!!!!!” he said, and a look of excitement and fear passed over his eyes. While Ethan sat by me and wiggled, I read to him from this wonderful book that explains the entire process of loose teeth. It covers all of the bases like why we lose our teeth, a pillow with a pocket for the tooth fairy, a special chart that you can fill out for each of your children and save for their baby books, and what to do if you (gasp) lose your tooth.
And practiced. Then, just to make sure this all will really happen, Ethan wished on an imaginary star that he would lose his tooth so the tooth fairy would come to visit him.
I have a feeling that it won’t be long! Maybe I should review the tooth fairy economics that we discussed earlier this year. Yes, something exciting is happening over here!
Sound Off: Did you do anything special to make this event even more special?

How cute! Ethan looks very proud of his loose tooth

We are still waiting for this momentous occasion. Noah is finishing kindergarten and all the others have started losing them. I assume it will be sometime this summer.

Ryan just discovered his first loose tooth a couple of weeks ago. (Is it supposed to happen this soon? Five seems awfully young!)
Anyway, we haven’t discussed how the Toothfairy will pay. He has had friends tell him about the Toothfairy, though, and he is super excited about finding money under his pillow!

That is an exciting time! I remember when my daughter lost her first tooth she was elated to find the Tooth Fairy had visited her overnight. With each tooth she expected the Tooth Fairy to leave more and more money – my little entrepreneur! Now, I know we are experiencing inflation, but that was getting a little ridiculous. She’s eight now, and we just recently discovered she needs to have a couple teeth pulled to make room for braces. I suspect she’ll get big money for those!

Oh, that is just so great. Our sons must be about the same age and mine has two wiggly teeth right next to each other! I thought they would fall right out but believe it or not, it’s been two months and still no teeth for the tooth fairy. As soon as he told me he had a loose tooth I immediately bought him a tooth fairy pillow and hung it on his wall where it waits and waits to be used! Every morning we do a “tooth check” and he shows me the progress he’s made. It makes me laugh every day! I think it really may happen this week and I’m debating about how much money the tooth fairy will leave. Maybe $2 a tooth? This whole event makes me really happy for some weird reason.I guess I just remember how fun it was when I was little.

Frugal Dad- That is too cute that your daughter thought she was going to get more and more money. That was just the kind of little girl my sister was and she has grown into an amazing woman who manages her money well
Christi & Simple Beauty- Ethan is five and will be six in July. My nephew is six and currently has four teeth loose at the same time
Things to look forward to!

Wow, Princess didn’t get her first loose tooth until a few months ago in 1st grade!
The tooth fairy left her a $2 bill for the first one, and then a sacagawea (sp?) one dollar coin for the second one. . .

Amy,
What a great book to celebrate this milestone!
I remember losing a tooth in Walmart when I was a little kid. We received a quarter for each tooth–how times have changed! =)

Tiff- The author is Susan Magsamen. She has a couple of other books out for family nights and celebrating Christmas. I have seen them at Barnes and Noble before and you can also order through the link in the entry, or check at your library!! I hope that helps!

Oh my, WHAT A CUTIE!
We haven’t reached this stage yet and by then the tooth fair minimum wage will be $10 based on the current market!

Very cute. My daughter just turned 6 and has lost 3 teeth so far. She has a cousin about to turn 7 in a couple months who hasn’t lost any. The range of ages just amazes me.

Wow, already! I’ve been wondering when this starts to happen. I haven’t even thought about the tooth fairy! I need to check out that book.
Love the dino PJ’s!

Mr. Big Pants actually just turned 5 in April so the loose tooth was a big ole shock to me. Coincidentally he had a dentist appointment just a few days after that first tooth started wiggling around in it’s socket. Our pediatric dentist said that kids typically start losing their baby teeth any time between 4 yo-7.5yo! That’s a mighty big range!
