This is honestly the best tutorial I have seen on shaping and plucking your eyebrows. I wanted to post this to go along with our discussion yesterday on saving on beauty services. Eyebrow waxing or going to a salon to have your eyebrows shaped can tack on extra money to a strapped budget. This tutorial is a great introduction into learning how to do this yourself and keep that extra money in your pocket (or for your latte!)

I am a visual learner and this really helped me!

Sound Off: Do you shape your own eyebrows or have them professionally done? How much do you pay for this service (if you pay)? Please share!

Great tutorial! I tend to go and have them waxed a couple of times a year, because I have real problem eyebrows – mine are thin and sparse so if I pluck the one wrong hair, it looks like I’ve got a big missing part. But when I pay for the professional shaping, I can keep it up for at least 4 months or more in between.

I go for waxing probably 3 or 4 times a year, and pluck in between. I usually pay between 10 and 15 dollars, so it’s pretty affordable.

Did you see at the end of the tutorial that they did a filling out of your brows? I have never done that before. My hair is soooo dark so I think I have the opposite problem as you! :)

I usually pluck or wax myself, using the Sally Hansen facial wax kit. It’s super easy…you just have to be careful because with a slight slip, things could look VERY WRONG!!! A few times a year before big social events, I’ll splurge and have them done in a salon for about $12 plus tip.

I have been blessed with eyebrows that don’t require much. I just tweeze an occasional hair now and then. My daughter inherited her dad’s eyebrows, poor girl, and I plan on taking her to the salon to have hers done when she turns 12. You do need to be careful with those tweezers, I’ve had some friends get carried away and it’s not pretty. Most people in southern California have their brows threaded. It’s about $8 and they do amazing work. There are threading salons in all the malls and lots of independent salons. We’re the state with the most beautiful eyebrows!

I pluck everyday. Doesn’t take me very long. I had my makeup professionally done and she had shaped them all up for me and I’ve just kept it up. I never want it to grow out long enough to wax it. I have dark and thick eyebrows…just think Brooke Shields in the 80s. ;-)

I’m allergic to the wax so when I do get my eyebrows professionally done I have to have them plucked instead of waxed. What is threading, I’ve never heard of that? I might have them done professionally once a year and then just keep up on it.

For those of you with thin brows that need filling in (like me on the ends) I like Benefit brand “brow zings”. A little pricy, but it lasts me a long time. Thanks for the tutorial!

I get my lip threaded about once a month (hormone imbalance) which is $10 and I get my brows threaded about every 2 to 3 months and that’s also $10. I have had problems reacting to wax so was excited to find the threading which I have no reaction to.

Threading is a middle eastern method of hair removal using cotton thread. YouTube has some samples on it. I find it less harsh on my skin than wax and as I mentioned no reaction to it like I have waxes.

I am blessed with eyebrows that don’t get too crazy! I like to get them waxed every few months and the tweeze them in between. I pay $6 to get them waxed. A friend of mine has a beauty salon at her home…. I just had my hair cut and my brows waxed and it was $17 plus tip.

I was my own eyebrows and upper lip, only because I have my liscense for cosmetology and have training so cost of the wax is all.

I do have the permanent eyeliner tatooed every 6 months and I have my lips permanent lip lined also every 6 months but again I know people in the field that do it for the cost of the material only

Wow, great tutorial! I think I’ll have to get a pencil and give it a try! I have dark eyebrows, one arches more than the other, maybe finally I can get them a little more even! I’ve never had my eyebrows professionally done. I guess I’m too much of a cheapskate! :-)

What a fun discussion on such a painful subject :) I am enjoying hearing your routines and had forgotten about the threading option

I might have to do a weekly You Tube tutorial- such fun!
