My husband and I go to state parks a lot. Some of the cabins in PA state parks are inexpensive and nice – clean showers, ovens, microwaves, refrigerators, etc. For our anniversary in May, though, we are staying at a relatively inexpensive bed and breakfast to explore Shenendoah National Park and nearby caves for an extended weekend.

we aren’t doing anything for spring break but this summer we are flying to CT and bought tickets for $10 each on skybus.com! i was so excited!

We are staying home and going on a few day trips in our area to free places. Our county museum will be one stop. Our state park will be another. I am going to plan a few more days and we’ll relax the rest of the time.

Your day-trip advice is what we try to do most of the time. Another money-saving investment I’ve made is a membership to a museum in another state, which provides reciprocity to children’s museums, science centers, and zoos around the country. When we travel, I look for places where I can use the reciprocal membership.

Many states have rental cabins for very low rates that can be reserved at state parks. THey’re hard to get but I’ve heard those can be good.

First, we always try to fly with Frequent Flyer type programs. Our six tickets to Florida this month,for example, were free. I don't like the staying with friends/family option because it tends to add obligation but we also like to catch things right at the off season.

Of course you're already aware of the catching deals at the last minute thing--cruises and plane tickets can be had at a steal that way.

Oh, and we stay in condos or places with kitchens. Eating out can kill a budget so we always eat in that way. Going to places that have cheap entertainment--i.e. museums, beaches, historical sites, caves, hiking, that kind of thing makes it cheaper too.

Gosh, good post topic. I'll have to think more about it.

We can’t really afford to fly out from Alaska to the lower 48. But we are going to go camping and maybe to a cabin as our trip.

We are hanging out at home and just enjoying being around each other. It seems we are always constantly running. I’m hoping I can convince the kiddies to help me unpack some of the moving boxes but I doubt that will happen. They are normally smart enought to not fall for that.
