Great post but PLEASE, ground yourself before you start taking the cover off your computer. Static electricity can really reek havoc on your computer. I once had a technician blow up my power source because he didn't ground himself.

I have a laptop. Any words of wisdom for cleaning a laptop?

I hope everyone will also make triple sure they have great scanning software. At some point I am sure this nice lady will cover it and if you don't have it, you should. Watch for some great sales I am seeing and get a new copy to install. You'll never reget it.

And, if you hate cleaning the inside of your computer, get a small room air cleaner to put right next to it and it will really help keep those bunnies under control. Just don't forget it will need some attention too. I like the ones that have washable filters.

I'm glad to see this series starting, but I would appreciate seeing us Mac users taken into consideration in any general computer articles. "Right click"? That doesn't exist in our world.

Be aware that if you delete your cookies, you may be deleting userid/password information that is stored on your computer. What that means is the next time you log on to a site you would need to provide this information. You should always know what your user (or log on) id and password is, but I know that it is confusing for people when they have to do this when they aren't use to it. Just to tell people to delete them and that they aren't necessary is a little misleading for the average user. I agree that they aren't necessary, but they are used, and I don't think most people understand how they are used.

Sheila
