You are doing a great job with the blog! I really enjoy it!
Here’s an idea for the (near) future – how about something on Easter clothing for kids? I’m debating whether to keep up with the tradition of my upbringing of buying a new Easter dress for my daughter each year (she is 3) and a new dress shirt for my son (he is 6). It is a fun tradition – they could care less, but I enjoy it. However, it is tricky with Easter being early this year to dress them warmly and yet use the clothing the remainder of the Spring and summer.
Just some random thoughts on that if you are ever searching for a topic – what do you do? Will you be sharing some Easter ideas in the coming weeks?
Thanks- B.
Here, by request, is a new article on enjoying a fun & frugal Easter with your family. I tried to compile all of the ideas that we have used and researched some new ways that we could save our family in the future years.
I hope you enjoy the article and I thank you for all of your fabulous suggestions for what to write about. It really helps me so please continue sharing your ideas and emailing them to me at amy@momadvice.com.
Sound Off: As we all know, Easter is not about spending money at all, but there are many special traditions that families engage in for the holiday. What are some of your special traditions or ways that you have found to celebrate the holiday inexpensively? Do you buy a special Easter outfit for your children each year? Please share!

I buy my daughter a new Easter dress at a great consignment shop in our area, Children’s Orchard. This year I picked out a lovely yellow Talbot’s Kids dress for $6. I definitely reuse baskets and “grass” to save money, and I stock up on after the season valentine’s candy to help fill the basket. I also include a book, some art supplies and an outdoor toy for the upcoming summer season. Thanks for the great article!

In the past I’d always found a cute but simple dress at a rummage sale in the summer for Easter for my daughter and a nice shirt for my son. I didn’t this year. I splurged and made a special dress for her. First time sewing a dress and it turned out pretty well. I feel the $ was well worth it, not just for a dress for her but for the craft time for me. Dress picture here. Fabric and supplies were still less than what I’d pay for something else that would only be worn once.
I thought I’d start a new “tradition” for the Easter Baskets this year – by adding seed packets. I usually try to minimize candy by adding toys, but seeds seemed so fun and my smallest is just beginning to understand what seeds are. Will be fun to see if we can get them to grow.

For Easter, I put out about 80 eggs in my yard for the kids to find. Inside them are coins. My kids always get so excited about the Easter egg hunt. I am tricky. I make them separate all the coins into groups, then we have to count the money. I know it is weird to use a holiday for a learning day. But they really enjoy it and they learn too.
The Easter bunny sometimes brings presents and sometimes he brings candy. I am not a big fan of the candy but my husband thinks it is part of Easter. My kids do not seem to care either way.

We love Easter at our house! It is a wonderful chance for my husband and I to have real conversations with our children 2 and 1 about Jesus dieing on the cross for their sins. Of course they do not under stand this much, however it is wonderful to see the light in their eyes when reading about him raising from the dead!
We also hunt for Easter Eggs and have a big family dinner! We too have the tradition of buying our lttle girls new dresses (If you can call two years a tradition!

I am able to have my little girl get new Easter dresses very frugally — my mother sews quite well, and wants this to be one of her “grandma” gifts each year. She also encouraged using things for Easter “baskets” that can be reused — I remember several years a child, our Easter “baskets” were actually new pails for the sandbox.

I buy them on eBay or the year before in the after easter sales. This year I got an $88 Janie & Jack dress for $10 NWT on eBay!

I’ve been so spoiled because my MIL buys the kids their Easter outfits and has done their baskets every year thus far. Some day she may get tired of it, but since she enjoys it right now, I’m just going with the flow.
But if I had to buy them I’d be keeping my eyes out at the thrift stores and yard sales

Our Easter is always about family. We spend the day with all the extended family at the park and playing.
I think holidays are about family time.
As for Easter clothes – my kids do not like to dress up. Bummer for me.

I buy most of my doughter’s church clothes at a local consignment/thrift store for about $5. dollars each. I wash them in lingerie bags and hang dry and it keeps them in great shape. Then the next summer I sell them in my yearly garage sale for about the same price I bought them for! It lets me dress her frilly and fancy like I want to, but still keep my costs down. Ebays also a great place to watch for clothes.
Great post!
