Featured today on WSBT was a segment that I did on celebrating Valentine’s Day on a budget. This goes along with our Valentine’s Day article full of tips for saving cash.
I mentioned that Restaurant.com is a great place to get gift certificates for your evening out. We do have an affiliation with the company, but I recommend it because it really can save families money. I checked their current promotions and they are offering gift certificates for 60% off with an additional 25% discount from deLaFlowers. This offer is good through February 6th using coupon code SUPER when checking out. Use this provided link to access this deal! If you want to understand more about how this program works, you can read my personal review of this program.
Just to be sure you don’t miss it, listen for a tiny voice in the background on the segment. Emily was particularly wild that day, but Cari said it would just help people believe me more that I really am a mom and really do have children. Emily won’t hold still for any camera shots, but she was having a great time in the playroom while we shot our segments.

Awssome segment Amy! Way to keep VD frugal, yet fun!
A funny side note, you came across as glamorous, smart, wise…and a tease, honestly, the cookies in that glass cake stand were so distracting. Share your recipe, pretty please

You do look great, Amy. Next time buy one of those 99-cent bags of navel oranges at Aldi and fill up that fruit basket!
One of the reasons we cook Valentine’s dinner at home is that most restaurants refuse to accept Entertainment Book coupons and Restaurant.com gift certificates on holidays.
Has anyone else found this to be true?

Meredith- You are so right. I only had two apples left and grocery day was a week away. I just never know where we are going to shoot our segments and I hadn’t thought of it
Next time the fruit basket will be overflowing!!
That is too bad that your restaurants don’t take these coupons. Restaurant.com guarantees their coupons and if you have a bad experience, let them know so that they can stop selling gift certificates to those places.
I have had a little trouble in the past with the Entertainment books. Usually they just require you to tell them before you are served that you are using one of the coupons. I don’t understand why restaurants participate and then don’t want to honor the deals.
Susana- Ha! Here is the recipe for the cookies
They actually turned out horrible because I replaced the butter with margarine and the cookies came out pretty bad. Not a good substitution so if you make these don’t do that and they will be perfect

Katie- I am so glad that you found the site!

Wow, how fun is THAT! Excellent segment. You look like a professional that I always envisioned you to be. Martha Stewart better watch her back.

i used to be a rep with restaurant.com and it is a really great site but the only problem is that a lot of restaurant owners decide that they don’t want to accept the certificate on holidays or weekends (or on full moons) so basically they verbally tell the guest of their new revisions to the terms and make restaurant.com and their restaurant look bad. My advice is to present the certificate before you order or even ask about it when you call for reservations so you or the owner aren’t surprised with the certificate. If the owner won’t accept it, call the toll free restaurant.com number and they will give you a credit to the site.
LOVE YOUR SITE! THANKS FOR ALL THE FUN TIPS!
