My hubby and I started buying green beans and roasting our own. The green beans are generally around $5 a lb. This is the most amazing flavor you'll ever encounter in terms of coffee, Starbucks has nothing on this! He built an inexpensive coffee roaster, for details check out:

http://choosing-a-blog-url-sucks.blogspot.com/2006/07/coffee-roaster-mod-for-home-roasting.html

But your suggestion to buy a French Press, awesome! You're right the best way to make coffee in my opinion. Now if I can just save up to purchase an insulated french press so i can savor the flavor without it cooling too fast.
thanks Amy!
