Day Trip to Chicago & WSBT-TV Segment

Yesterday I had to make a day trip over to Chicago to…..(drum roll please!) shoot some promotions for KENMORE! Yup, I am being added to their team of experts to talk about cleaning & organizing for their Make It Simple team! I will be sure to post links to the promotions and my monthly articles with the team, sharing my advice on cleaning & caring for your appliances.

This was truly a dream come true job and I will be working with Kenmore for the next six months (and hopefully longer, if all goes well!) I wish I could have had my camera yesterday to take pictures of that day, but I didn’t want to be a complete dork! It went really well, but I didn’t get home until close to midnight. To say I am tired today would be putting it mildly. I had to stop at Starbucks this morning and cash in on one of my Christmas gift certificates. This is the first time I have ever asked for a triple shot of espresso in my cup. That was a mistake…I fear I never will go back to regular caffeine again!

I still can’t believe that this opportunity landed in my lap and I was a little choked up when I got home last night. All of the fuss over hair and wardrobe and feeling like a star for a day…it was just a dream come true. I can’t wait to tell my kids someday how cool I felt that day!

My segment on, “Making Your Own Bread” also aired on WSBT yesterday. I shared some tips for saving money on making your bread at home. I share the functions to look for on a machine and tips for saving on making your own bread. This goes along with my post on how to use your bread machine and how to store your ingredients.

Sound Off: Do you make your own bread? How do you streamline the bread-making process?

Way to go, Amy!!! I am so thrilled that you are doing a promotion for Kenmore. I’m actually a huge fan of Kenmore appliances and plan on buying a new Kenmore dishwasher soon. On the Bread Making front, you have so inspired me and I am going to start using my bread machine again! Thanks for sharing your recipes! And congratulations on the big promotion as a mom entreprenuer!

We’ve just started, using our stand mixer. I assume we’ll make the bread on the weekend for the week ahead.

I love making bread! I make most of our bread, although we don’t eat much.

My process was not very streamlined until I got this recipe from my mom. Now I can finish the whole process in 75 minutes! I hardly even have to plan ahead compared to some recipes like this one!

REally sounds like all your hard work is starting to pay off! Jakesmom

I do make my own bread – but it kind of goes in spurts. For some odd reason right when the temp starts getting really hot, I feel like baking bread. Not a good combination in my small kitchen.

Anyway – I like to try different recipes and since white bread isn’t all that healthy – I try to use some whole grains in the mix.

I’ve never had a bread machine or dough mixer – so I do it the old fashioned way – and my 8 yr old is finally able to help me with that part!

    My process isn’t very streamlined – b/c I don’t always use the same recipe…

    Way to go, Amy!

I don’t have a breadmaker, but I do make homemade bread sometimes. You’re right that the price of bread has gone up, especially if you want something that has some actual nutritional value!

Oh thank you! It has been killing me not getting to share about all of this, but I wanted to wait until it felt a little more real.

The promotions will be on various websites and I am sure they will be promoting it on their website too. I was excited to get to represent such a great product line!

Mrs. Mordecai- Thank you for the recipe!! I will have to check it out.

Edi- I am the same way about doing strange stuff like that during different seasons. Glad to hear I am not alone :)

Heather- Let me know how your adventures go with your bread machine!!

Amy – I am so excited for you! That is just wonderful! I love to make bread, but I hate trying to find the time and especially the patience to let it rise. Tha’s my biggest hang-up. And I love fresh rolls to go with dinner, and I am SOOO BAD! at making them – I don’t know how anyone could be this bad, but I am. It’s sad because my mother and both grandmothers are/were experts at rolls…

For our large family of nine we make 16 loaves a week. We usually make them on Friday afternoon so that Saturday is free to have fun. We have two ovens so the process is actually done within 4 hours because I can fit 4 loaves in each oven at one time. I use my trusty Kitchen-Aid to do the mixing. I make 2 batches each of Honey Whole Wheat Bread and White Bread. I make the wheat bread first because it doesn’t take as long to rise. Then while it’s rising in the pans I make the white bread. When the whole wheat bread is done cooking the white bread dough is ready for the pans. It’s taken several years of practice but we have it done pat now. ;D

    Hi Amy,

Congratulations on your Kenmore promotion! I have a bread maker that has a deluxe rapid cycle on it and so I can make a loaf of bread in 59 minutes. I really enjoy this feature because I can come home after work and start a loaf of bread and be able to serve it with my meal. I can also make a loaf of bread in a few hours if I am home on the weekend and get dinner started earlier.
May God continue to Bless you and your family.

Congratulations, Amy! Sounds like it was fun, too. Hey, can I ask for advice about bread-making? I haven’t done it since the weather turned cool and I’m not sure what to do about proofing since my kitchen is now too cold. Do you use the oven, and if so, how? I was thinking of turning it on to 200 to warm up, then turning it off and leaving the dough in there to rise. Do you think that will work? Thanks for any advice you might have!
