The Motherload Blog

Unfortunately, there was a technical glitch so my scheduled segment did not air and it ended up being a repeat this week on my WSBT Mom’s First segment. The good news is that the first time it ran, I didn’t have a link yet to the video, but now I do and can share it with everyone.

This segment goes along with my discussion awhile ago on Frugal Hacks and shares more tips for hosting a game day party without spending a lot of cash.

I hope you guys enjoy it! Next week I will be discussing ways to save on your holiday baking. I will be working frantically on an article to go along with this discussion so keep your eyes peeled. A new article compiling my wrapping ideas will also be featured this next week on our site.

If you have suggestions for a future segment, please email me at amy@momadvice.com. It would mean a lot to me especially with the holidays fast approaching!

How about an idea on simple gifts for kids? Like things you can make yourself, even if you aren’t amazingly crafty. Here are a few of my ideas…
An ABC book for ages 1-4 – cut out magazine pictures and use stickers and clip art to make a little personalized ABC book for your toddler. I used a 6×6 scrapbook from AC Moore. Turned out pretty cute and was something we’ll always keep.

Also, my son is into the NFL, so I found some fleece with the Philadelphia Eagles logo and made him a pillow for his bed. It has knotted edges – no sewing involved and I made it in about 45 minutes.

Another idea I’m doing this year is making a memory game for my kids. I went around the house and took pictures of some funny things – a little Furby face, a close up on a favorite teddy bear, a silly snowman, etc. I’m getting copies from Snapfish and then I’ll get them laminated and put them in a little box.

A friend of mine who does cabinet work and is handy with a saw made his son a set of homemade building blocks.

Just a few ideas. I’m sure you have a ton too.
