It is that time of year again and I got our space heater out last night to warm our downstairs family room. Would you believe that this is the third edition of this space heater in our house in less than a year, and it has once again OVERHEATED?!! The first two I had returned, all for overheating, but now I am past the return policy on this one. I really loved the design of this heater because the air blew at just the right height, but now I just want one that works.

Do you guys have a space heater that you could recommend? One that has some lasting qualities to it? I am looking for one with an automatic shutoff.

Boo to Lasko for releasing such a bad product! Shame on you!

My roommate in college insisted we get an oil-filled heater for our dorm room. I was wary of the idea, but she sold me on the idea. Last year, we bought one for our apartment, and it heated the whole thing such that the furnace didn’t come on until Febuary, and it paid for itself in 2 or 3 months. Now, in a small house, we’re hoping to get a second oil-filled heater so we can heat the whole house with it. Various brands retail for $40 and up, and they go on sale for $30-35

eden pure it is pricy but it does not get hot to the touch and has a 3 year warenty and you won’t see a large jump in your electric bill I use it in my 3 yr olds room and I know she won’t get burned or start a fire.

I have 2 that I bought at CVS. The brand is Wind Chaser, it has a remote control. a timer you can set if you want, 3 different heat settings, rotates 360 degrees or stays still, has auto and fan, and auto shutoff in case it is tipped over or overheats. I got them on sale around T day for 49.00 each, I think the reg. price was 89.00 each. They work really well and they are pretty nice looking, too.

Amy, Last year I bought 2 Patton’s (Twin ceramic heater w/accutemp plus). I never heard of them before, but I got them for like $15 each (regular $60-80)online. They do get hot to the touch and they are low to the ground, but they swivel and have a tip-over safety feature. They also have settings that will stop heating at a certain temp (like your houshold thermastat). Unfortunately they never truely ‘turn off’ – the only way is to unplug. I have one at the office and one at home and so far they have worked great. Good luck on your search and thanks for the wonderful website.
