The Motherload Blog

I have been hard at work over at The Motherloot and wanted to share some of our new product reviews with you! I wanted to make sure I got these up in time for all of that holiday shopping so I hope you can take a peek for some great gift ideas.

New Reviews:
Flip Video Ultra Series
Otopia Organic Skin Care Products
For the Kids Three CD
OskerBee Baby Changing Station
FamilyStories Books
Ferrero Rondnoir Chocolates

You might also notice that my hubby has been hard at work on our website too! We have a new banner for both The Mother load and The Aldi Queen Blog. He also has created a great landing page with an introduction to all of the blogs on our site so that it is easier to find what you are looking for and tons easier to subscribe to our feeds.

In honor of all of the big changes I am making around here, I am giving away the Kaboost Booster Seat that I had received from the company. I absolutely adore it, but it doesn’t hit at the right height for our table so I want to share it with someone else for the holiday season. These retail for $39.95 so it is a great freebie for one special reader.

Rules to Enter: Please click to leave a comment and tell me one article or idea that you would like to see on our website for 2008. I am stumped for new article ideas and this would be a wonderful help to me for creating the type of site that you want to keep coming back to! Entries must be received by 8PM Eastern Standard Time on Friday evening. The winner will be announced on Saturday! Good luck and please feel free to share the giveaway with your readers. It is as an awesome product and would be a great addition to your dinner table!

How about activities to do with children that are cheap or free? Like maybe a rainy day craft of making something out of empty oatmeal canisters.

So your husband is responsible for your lovely site (seriously, it is one of my favorite, visually- and content-wise)

I know you already do this, but I love all of the Aldi info.

I’m always looking for ideas for frugal decorating and activities.

    Blessings,
    K

I would love to see an article addressing special situations – if you live in a small apartment and don’t think you can buy in bulk; if you rent and can’t install programmable thermostats; if you live in the middle of nowhere and can’t shop the loss leaders of 5 different grocery stores.

Everybody seems to have the same frugal advice (install low flow showerheads! Hang your clothes to dry! Shop at thrift stores!) I’d like to see some unusual advice for people who can’t do that.

Thank you so much, Karla! I am so incredibly blessed to have a web designer hubby. I know very little about computers and how to use them, so he makes everything pretty for me on here.

It means a lot coming from you considering your site is MOST excellent! Thank you!

I would love an article about your M.O. for finding worthwhile thrifted items.

I’ve recently begun to embrace second-hand shopping, but I seem to come across more trash than treasure.

I love your blogs. They’re a daily read for me.

I love printable pages but don’t know how to design them for myself. I would love to see printable cheat sheets of frugal ideas and pages that could be used for making a frugal binder. Being organized saves so much money :)

I am always looking for ideas on how to manage the wardrobes for my boys, with an emphasis on how to save money on purchasing clothing and get the most out of selling or donating clothing. This gets into an organizational topic of sorting and storing clothes that are the next sizes, handing down to little brother without “missing” out on outfits because you couldn’t find them, and sorting clothing to donate, give away, or sell. I’ll be telling all my Freebies 4 Mom readers about your wonderful giveaway! Thank you Amy!

Hi, I love your site! Great Job with it and Kudos to your husband!

As for an idea… I’d love to see information on children’s toys/games… I don’t like buying expensive toys for my daughter. I love thinking of neat ways to play games with her with things that we have around the house… Or ways to make homemade games. I love searching for things like this. Not only is it cheaper but I like to make things that will help her learn and grow. then, of course, I could always use more information on what games/toys are appropriate for different ages.. I’m always looking to see what will work well and challenge her at her specific age.
Thanks! Keep up the great work!

oooh lots of good ideas mentioned.

as i was cleaning today, i started wondering about ways to organize. I desperately need to organize all around my home but don’t have spare cash to buy things for doing so.

I love the new cute images that you’ve done with the site! I still check you daily!

An idea would be to know how to work the 9PM-9AM electricity schedule for off peak hours and trying to save money that way. I know that some people do that, I just can’t get my mind to visualize how to organize my activities during the day to make sure I utilize those different times. Do you do this? How do you do it or like it?

I’m in! So some things I’d love to hear your take on: sources for salvage groceries, cost/taste comparison on different grains for baking (for people with gluten intolerence, or just those who want to boost their fiber with better than white wheat flour!), articles on the efficiency of different convenience electronics (like the piece you did on dishwashers, proving that it was actually more efficient in terms of energy and water usage).

I’m new to your site, so I need to read up on what you normally post. BUT I do have a suggestion just the same. I have a list of items I normally purchase at ALDI because they are cheaper there. Could you post on what you normally buy there because it is cost effective?

I have two ideas. First, is there an efficient way to look for discount food stores like Aldi? I live in New England and there is nothing like that around me (that I know of). My second suggestion is guiding your readers toward a cost-effective do-it-yourself photo session for families and kids.
I just found your sight and I love it!

This is my first time here and I must say it is one of the most organized and well laid out websites I have been to! I love it and I will be a regular visitor, I am bookmarking it as a favorite right now!

As for new ideas, with so many popular toys being recalled because of lead I think a very popular post would be about where to purchase AMERICAN MADE toys. We have stricter guidelines and I know I am not the only mother who would pay a little extra for a toy made in the USA than one from China. I have been searching everywhere for Made in the USA toys and they are hard to find. One informative post about stores, sites or magazines that lists great toys and where you can buy them would be fantastic.

I would love to see an article on toy safety. With all the recalls and lead lurking everywhere, I’d like to know what toys are best and safest to buy. Also, I’d like to read about the pros of organic clothing and if they’re worth the hefty price.
    Thanks. :)

I’m new to your site/blog and LOVE it! Lots of great resources.

I’d love to hear ideas for organizing what I’ve been calling my new “Mommy Central” area. I’ve cleared a spot on my laundry room counter (great hiding place!) for my own inbox, cell charging station, key ring, etc. Basically a place I go to everyday with my own files, to dos, calendar, etc. (school forms, PTO business, home ideas). With 3 kids and working outside the home, I need something like this so I don’t miss (or misplace) anything. Just wondering if you have any ideas for perfecting it!

    Thanks! Jenni

I have just recently discovered your site! I love it! I don’t know if you have ever done something like this before, but what about a recurring series on simplifying life? Ways to declutter, dechaos and de-hectic our lives?
