Today I wanted to share a little holiday craft that I have been working on. I have been making some bubbly magnets to go in stockings and as small gifts for those special people in our life.
Remember, I am no Martha Stewart, so any craft that I share is something that a child can do. I am trying to share some little ideas for things that you can make to give for the holidays. Last week I shared my homemade spiced nut mixture and this week I am sharing my magnet craft. Crafting can be expensive, but this craft is affordable and highly addictive!
Supplies Needed:
Flat marbles (These can be purchased at the dollar store or in the floral section of your local craft store)
1/2″ or 3/4″ Round magnets (These are the most expensive purchase. I believe they are $6.99 for 50 magnets, but you can use the Michael’s 40% off coupon in your paper towards this tab)
Modge Podge Adhesive Glue
A small paintbrush
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Scissors
Pictures for your magnets (you can use photographs, wrapping paper, magazine pictures, scrapbooking paper- anything with a fun design)
Instructions:
Take your marbles and center it over your desired design, just to make sure it will fit perfectly under your marble. Dip your brush into the Mod Podge glue and brush the glue onto your design. Center your marble over the design and stick it to the pattern. Allow the glue to dry for fifteen to twenty minutes. If you are doing more than one magnet, on the same sheet, repeat the process on the paper or move on to your next sheet of paper.
Once your glue has dried, cut around the marbles, as close to the edges as possible. Now take your glue gun and dab a bit of glue on the magnet and attach your marble over the magnet piece. Allow these to dry completely.

Kim- I found these at The Dollar Tree over at Indian Ridge Plaza in Mishawaka. I found my marbles though at Goodwill for a quarter a bag. Someone had donated them so I used these first and then bought some from Dollar Tree for when I finished my first bags. They are so much fun- you will love these, I promise!
Meredith- You are so right! I have also saved my Real Simple Magazines and Martha Magazines. The font on these is beautiful and this is a great project to spell out names and stuff like that. So fun!!

Oh my gosh…we must be on the same wavelength because I just went to Michael’s yesterday and bought stuff to make these with! And, they had those little wooden trinket boxes on sale for 66 cents each. I will paint the boxes, maybe some collage work, then 8 of the marbles will fit perfectly inside (the inside that I’ve lined with some of those pretty pages from the magazines!) A perfect little gift for girlfriends at church and work!

I’ve been making these for several years and found that the easiest way to cut out the paper is to use a scrapbooking circle punch. You can get a small one that perfectly matches the small discs, and a larger punch that matches the larger discs.

Also! Regular thumb tacks fit on the flat side of these marbles. They stick on well with hot glue. I’ve got lots of them on a cork board, and they’re much cuter than plain tacks.

My sister-in-law gave us some of these a couple of years ago for Christmas. She used tiny pictures of her kids and even a couple little pics of us at our wedding since we had gotten married that year. We still love using them. So fun!

I’ve been wanting to make those and I even bought the SAME scrapbooking paper for another project! I have had a hard time finding the marbles – I’ll keep looking, the Dollar store is a great idea.

I made these several years ago for folks. For Yankee Bill I took an old Harley Davidson parts catalog and glued the marbles over various places where the harley emblem appeared (sometimes on pictures of various parts, sometimes as part of the text etc) and made him magnets and tacks to use in his cubicle at work.
My MIL liked them so much that she made them for all the ladies she plays bridge with-she sacrificed an old deck of cards so that they each got 4 magnets with the suit on it (heart, club etc)
This is a great craft to do for GUYS-especially ones who work in offices where they may have use for magnets (on a file cabinet perhaps?) or tacks. Your guy into golf? use an old golf magazine? Hunting, cars, music? You can find magazines ads etc to use.

Thanks for posting this! I recently bought some of these off Etsy for solstice and birthday presents, and knew they were easy to make, just didn’t know what to use for glue! I’ll be making some magnets this year!
Oh, another suggestion, use a domino with the picture on the front for a rectangular magnet. I find these even cuter because the picture is so clear.

a great way to “gift” these is to put them in an altoids box. Decorate the box.. and the magnets will stick!
