Freebie Friday: March 9, 2007

Cue the Rocky theme music…Have you heard about the big competition coming up? I have already started lifting weights and practicing my mad knife skills to compete against Meredith in a little money-saving challenge. Meredith and I will be facing off in a fight for our lives (or, um..whatever!) to see who can save the most money- someone who shops the sales fliers or someone who just does their shopping at Aldi Supermarket.

I have to admit, I am getting a teensy bit nervous after reading a half dozen blogs this morning talking about it. Meredith is one smart cookie and she knows how to make her dollars scream for mercy. She is going to be tough competition so I am going to have to really be working hard this weekend to try and come up with some brilliant menu plans. My husband suggested carrots for dinner one night and a piece of bread the next night. He thought this would be the best way to keep the budget on track. This displays what type of family we are..we aim to win!

For the full scoop on the contest, please visit this entry or visit Meredith’s entry for her take on the contest.

In all seriousness, I am looking forward to sharing some of the ways we save on my new blog, “the Aldi Queen.” Be sure to check there for this week’s planner and grocery list!

    Tracy,

Here is the link to the knife:
    http://tinyurl.com/2kasxs

It is on sale for $59.99 and I think you can get free shipping on it through Amazon.

I absolutely love that knife. There is not a day that goes by that I don’t use it. I got it as a gift from my husband for Christmas last year and it is one of the most used items in our kitchen!!

    Hope that helps!

I wish we had an ALDI here, though Grocery Outlet has AMAZING savings! Rule of thumb there: Always check the date, especially on the cheese.

I friggen’ LOVE aldi’s. When we lived in Indiana (mishawaka) we shopped there all the time. Saved so much $$$

We moved out to Colorado in Feb 2005, no Aldi’s here though :( I was heartbroken lol

I love how you said “michiana” too.Not many people know that term.
