I have been making my own stain spray for years now. Its equal parts Ammonia, Wisk, and water. Works on almost everything. Be careful though the ammonia is strong.

Great article Amy! Thanks so very much.

I just wanted to add that if you've been using commerical window cleaner that in order to do away with the streaks the first few times, you might want to add a drop or two of dish washing detergent to the homemade window cleaner mix.

Also, vinegar seems to take the clear coat off of my furniture. I use lemon juice and olive oil only.

Thanks for the info on homemade cleaners; I would like to start using more homemade (and non-toxic) products, so this is a great tutorial! I've also heard that club soda works well for cleaning windows.

fantastic stuff, Amy! i have a friend who uses Dr. Bronner's all-natural soap because it's so versatile around the house, even for use on people! also, she adds essential oils to her cleaning solutions (they are almost identical to what you've posted) - except the window cleaner, obviously - to give her home a nice scent. i LOVE the idea of using natural, non-toxic cleaners...and saving tons of money to boot makes it irrisitible!
